which is worse?
This film or Superman 4? I really cant decide.
shareFor good or bad, at least Superman IV still had Christopher Reeve. Maybe Roy Scheider could have added a little weight to this stinker but he had the sense to stay away.
shareFair comment, shame how both great franchises went pear shaped so quickly
shareI'm more of a Dennis Quaid fan than a Roy Scheider fan. I'm not a Christopher Reeve fan, though that doesn't mean I dislike him.

Definitely Superman 4 is worse in my opinion.
I like Jaws III quite a bit.

For me, Jaws 3-D...
Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.
Oh, I'd go for Jaws 3-D, in a heartbeat. I mean, how can you top Bess Armstrong in a wetsuit?! And then there's the ridiculously over the top acting and dialog, plus they ripped the ending (ie detonating explosives carried by a dead scuba diver) off from one of the rip offs.
Superman 4 however plays like a lame recreation of all the best stuff from the first three Superman movies. Off the top of my head, there's Lois Lane throwing herself off the balcony of her building in an attempt to out Clark Kent (similar to what she does in the Superman 2), her subsequent flight with Superman (as per Superman: The Movie), him kissing her and making her forget (as he did in the second movie), Lex Luthor's bumbling sidekick (Ned Beatty in the first Superman, Jon Cryer in number 4), said bumbling sidekick also happens to be a computer geek (as per Richard Pryor in number 3), Superman losing all of his powers (as happens in the second movie) and you've got the superpowerful evil presence (the Krypton trio in Superman II, Nuclear Man in the fourth movie). There's other stuff too, but those are the main plot points that me think "Wait, I think I've seen this movie before!".
You've also got the heavy handed "no nukes" message (apparently a result of Christopher Reeve being given "complete artistic control" over the script), special effects that are as bad or worse than Jaws 3-D, and a budget so low they couldn't afford to film scenes that were set in NYC in NYC itself (and you can TELL they weren't filmed in NYC!).
Jaws 3-D was at least made by Universal, ie the people who originated the Jaws frnachise, whereas Superman IV was made by Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus at Cannon Films, who are notorious for making movies which are never gonna win any Oscars or Golden Globes. According to Reeve, the budget was so low, they couldn't even afford to go to NYC for him to film the scene where he addresses the UN. They filmed it somewhere in England, and you can TELL, they're not at the UN or anywhere in NYC.
I can at least sit through Jaws 3.. Superman IV is too terrible to watch.
shareSuperman 4!
