Stephen King says Trump reminds him of Greg Stillson

(Martin Sheen's character in this movie) when asked by a NYT reporter David Marchese 4/26/20

Q: Does Trump remind you of any of your characters?

A: Greg Stillson from "The Dead Zone". Greg Stillson is a politician, and he says at one point: You know what? When I get to be president, we're going to send our garbage to outer space. There isn't going to be any more pollution. And people believed it! People want a simple answer. They want a man on horseback, and Trump's that guy.

Interesting and a bit different type of Stephen King movie for those who haven't seen it.

reply

Now that someone has brought it up, I buy it. Except I think Stillson was a much smarter man.

reply

Except Liberals have compared every single Republican President and candidate since the movie came out to Greg Stilson. Reagan was supposed to be Stilson, the Bushes, even the RINOs Mitt and John, and John's sidekick Sara Palin were Stilsons to the Liberals. Stilson is second only to Adolph Hitler in the Democrat/Liberal arsenal of hyperbolic comparisons. It's old hat now. So many Stilsons, so few Apocalypses.

reply

Means a little bit more coming from Stephen King himself though..

reply

Stillson like Trump? How. Trump was the most apolitical candidate I have ever seen. Stillson was the epitome of a politician. He was likeable and smiled and told you whatever you wanted to hear. Trump said many things that were not what people wanted to hear, which got him in trouble a lot, particularly with the intolerant left. If anything, Trump is the opposite of Stillson.

reply

When any of those comparisons to Stilson aren't completely apt, we'll let you know.

reply

And all your guys are Stalin and Big Brother.

reply

Stephen King is racist.

I still like some of his books though.

He's definitely racist as F.

reply

The man grew up in the 1950's in Maine...I suspect he was no more racist then your average man for that time and place.

You have to give some slack for the culture and time a person grew up in.

It would be like a time traveler from 50 years in the future labeling us for eating steak.

reply

Why? He doesn't cut Trump any slack, based on nothing at all. Trump was never a 'racist' until he became a Republican. He was heralded by the black community for decades. Suddenly, he becomes a racist due to the fact he is running for president and wants to protect Americans and honor our laws. Are people so gullible? Or is it that they want to believe it so fervently they forgot about reality?
King lives in a mansion, surrounded by security and WALLS. I guess they must work. Why do you listen to him? Liberals are obsessed with celebrities.

reply

TimMC was was calling Stephen King racist.

My reply was in defense of King.

Nowhere in my thread did I call Trump racist.

reply

> Trump was never a 'racist' until he became a Republican. He was heralded by the black community for decades.

Holy shit, that's ignorant as fuck. Trump was dragged into court many times in the 80s for having two sets of rules for his renters- one set of rules for whites, and a much stricter set of rules for blacks. He said, "Because they [i.e. blacks] don't pay their bills." (He didn't say that in court, of course.)

He's always been racist. His dad was an out in the open KKK supporter, and Trump acts as if his dad was God himself. Any black community awards he's ever been given, he probably had to pay for.

reply

Holy shit, then how come the black community praised him so much?

reply

I watched the movie for the first time in years last night and was thinking the same thing. It felt almost prophetic in that sense, as though King predicted Trump. The sad thing is, though, whereas Stillson lost all support after using the baby as a shield, Trump could do the same and still have followers.

reply

I think he will run in 2024.

If it against Harris, he has a pretty good shot.

reply

Stephen King not that bright. For four years, Dems claimed Trump was going to bring the end of times and none of that happened. They told us the stock market would crash. That he would start wars. That violence would reign in the streets. That part did happen, not because of Trump. Because of Dems, who decided to riot and riot and riot. Self-fulfilling prophecy.

reply

Agreed. Their behavior was disgusting and destructive. Trump didn't bring about the Apocalypse they insisted that he would, so they decided to try to kickstart it themselves and then they blamed him for it. Putrid, evil, nasty people.

reply

Dems....Dems Dems Denm

Whenever I see a person that uses that word too much, I know they are just a stooge for the polarization industry.

Dems = Bad
Republicans = Good

Pick a team and we will convince you that the other side is pure evil. That is how we keep you listening, and gives us ratings.

reply

Yes. The Dems are bad and the Republicans are good.

reply

Stephen King reminds me of David Duke.

Both racist fucks.

reply

Not a Trump fan, but wouldn't a neocon like Obama or Biden be more like Stillson?
