so aliens show up....

and people start to hate scientists? that makes no sense at all, I don't care what propaganda the aliens used.

this series was ok but had soo many failures. I think the remake next year will far surpass this version cause from what I've seen they have made some of the storylines more sensible.

Damn Scientists!

Happened in China too with the hating of anyone who could think for themselves including scientists and teachers.

People were and still are brain washed over there.

reply

If you think about it, why are teachers being hated today? Or unions? Or _____ (name it)?

I'm not suggesting anything, but there is a line between reasonable criticisms and scapegoating, and those with motives and ulterior motives will be more inclined to inject criticisms as means to distract.

Sadly, the 2009 pilot alone has so many gaffes - but only one really need to be said: the new bunch have already been on earth for decades - which was why they didn't bother shutting off their transmissions when their "surprise visit" had managed to creep out every other iota of communication the FBI was tracking. I mean, who ion the FBI would be bothered to keep track of transmissions at that point, apart from - you know, logging devices to record the anomaly?!!!!! Tthe original V aliens spent time figuring out humanity for a while and then showed up, but the new ones have been around on earth and still couldn't figure out something so obvious?)

The original mini, and far more so for the 1984 and 1985 spinoffs, had a few issues, but they are rock-solid compared to the drivel that ABC gave the green light to.

reply

Well for one thing the aliens gave earth the cure for cancer....

How that works is a gaff because aliens would have different DNA to humans so how could they cure human cancer..... But asume they can.

They then say all the scientists were holding this research back from the public.

reply

They did not. It was a false promise.

Try to find a parallel to groups of people being derided today.

Think about it for a while; you might find some parallels. Throw in a bit of psychology, notice why the Visitors had scientist-types ostracized, and then apply to the groups of people you've found being derided today.

reply

Well 2015 now and funny thing is conservatives seem to not like science and try to shun that wherever possible.

So should I be worried.

Our current Australian Government is trying to stifle any large voices of opposition by running fear campaigns and smear campaigns..

And how do you stop this when it starts.

Unlike the USA people don't do jack sh*t here in Australia when government is out of step. No one protests

I know I'm replying to a seven year old topic, but I find it fascinating. I've often said that people are forgetting what Nazism was like, the death it caused. If you're a Nazi now, you are just slightly bossy. The end of the world is your iPhone battery dying.

They say those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it, as you have shown. You don't look to history and see this has already happened, you just don't believe it's possible.

And now as America is in the grip of facism in the form of Trump... where hatred of an entire group has been whipped up... ask yourself if this is so surprising now.

Despite easily being summed up as:

"At first they went after scientists, but I didn't care because I was one..."

Going after scientists is exactly what intelligent aliens WOULD do in order to subdue a populace that it wants to conquer because, sorry, your local disc jockey is less likely going to be able to find a means to use biological defensive warfare against the invaders compared to a chemist or biologist.

Having seen the pilot from 2009, it introduced far more logistics problems than anything the original screwed up on...
