so aliens show up....

and people start to hate scientists? that makes no sense at all, I don't care what propaganda the aliens used.

this series was ok but had soo many failures. I think the remake next year will far surpass this version cause from what I've seen they have made some of the storylines more sensible.

who needs scientists? Just make a big noise about terror(ism) and then you can lock everyone up and deprive them of their civil liberties while they're cheering for you.

Yes, Sammmy, people are REALLY that gullible and are always looking to hate. Just look at the current idiots who listen to our current politicians' propaganda without questioning why or how???

"true and for that question just look at the Obama adminstration

Yeah, I much prefer the old way when poor people, or people in dangerous jobs can't afford proper healthcare and are ripped off by insurance companies.

Maybe the USA needs to wake up to the kind of healthcare that the rest of the civilised world has provided the needy with for decades, instead of a parasitic free-for-all. If anything resembles the Visitors, it's these parasitic health insurers.

People hated scientists because they thought there was a global conspiracy of scientists against the Visitors. In the beginning, 99.9% of Earth saw the Visitors as peaceful and welcomed them. The Visitors were going to help Earth in exchange for Earth helping them. They would share technology, ecological advancements and cures to many of diseases, such as Cancer. IF there was a conspiracy against the Visitors, it could potentially upset the "friendship" and jeopordize the sharing of many things. THAT is one of the reasons people hated scientists.

Then there is also the angle that human authority figures were also condemning some of the scientists, and lots of people jump on the "if-the-government-says-it's-evil, it-must-be-evil" bandwagon. That happens to this day... AND in America. This also crosses into the people that see it as their civic duty to help authority combat criminals by coming forward with info about them.

Add in the people that just look for a reason/excuse to hate another group of people...

See. It's not so far fetched.

It worked in 2001 over "terrorists," didn't it?

It was an allegory to Nazi Germany getting people to hate Jewish people. The reason the scientists were ousted was the fact that they could find out what the aliens really looked like and that isn't what the aliens wanted.

I hate scientists. Well, the ones who promote climate change myths.
