What is your favourite scene???

Mine happens to be when Tootsie is staying over at Julie's father's house and in bed with her..dressed in a long nightie, curlers, face powder..the lot!!! There is a flicker of horror on Julie's face as she turns to see Tootsie.

Just go with the flow like a twig on the shoulders of a mighty stream.

I've only just seen this for the first time tonight.

Lots of funny lines throughout the film but the two scenes that stand out are the exchanges between Jeff and John van Horn in the apartment, and near the end when Michael approaches Julie's Dad in the bar - approaches slowly anticipating hostility, holds his ground once the Dad has realised he's there, the dramatic pause, before Michael slips the engagement ring on to the bar - a terrific way to break the tension and very well thought out.

And yes, "Does Jeff know?" is a great line too.

Jessica Lange throwing her drink in Hoffman's face.

My favorite was the flower pot toss.

My favorite scene is when Hoffman and Pollack are going back and forth after Dorothy gets the ring. Their chemistry, their banter, and the look on Pollack's face when Michael says "He gave me a ring!". He just lights up, sits up straight and very matter-of-factly replies "So what did you say?" Like he was going to say "yes"!! Classic comedy. Still makes me laugh out loud after 30 years.

No person is completely unnecessary. One can always serve as a bad example - Ruth Bell Graham

Hardly a bad scene in the bunch, but all the scenes with Sydney Pollack are PERFECTION. I have seen this movie countless times, and those scenes stlll amaze me. The timing, and the chemistry between Hoffman and Pollack, is a wonderful thing.

My favorite scene is when Michael is trying on Sandy's clothes and she catches him. He then says that he wants her. That scene was hilarious.

It was fun to read through all the replies on this thread because it got me to realize just how many great scenes this movie has.

My two favorite scenes are when Dorothy stands out by the Russian tea room and asks "Excuse me, where is the Russian tea room?" and then goes in to get all cozy with her agent and in the middle dropping her voice (it's Michael Dorsey). Then the two high-power types come in and talk to them and she continues to be all flirty and cozy with him while he looks like he wants to disappear through a hole in the floor. And after the two guys leave she asks for a loan of $1,000 because "You can't expect me to just wear this!"

My other favorite is Bill Murray's "You slut" line. The whole Jeff role added so much to the story, too.

I love the scenes on the soundstage, like Dorothy's audition, or when she changes the lines in the hospital scene with the battered woman.

Or when Jessica Lange is "acting" with, "Nurse Kimberly has been important in all of our lives" (or whatever the line is) "and we're all going to be there to honor her...including you."

After Dorothy resists Van Horn's advances, after Jeff walks in and AFTER he calls her a slut, they talk about what just happened and Jeff says "what'd you let him up for?"

"What do you mean why I let him up - he was SINGING!"
We cracked up big time when he did that, and we always imitated that each time we very frequently watched the movie, and even when we weren't.

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked.
