Sandy is unlikeable

Over the years the character of Sandy has worn badly for me. Needy, self-obsessed, insecure, immature ...

Fun to look at and kind of sweet, but the kind of person in real life I'd find reasons not to spend too much time with.

Well yes, she is written as a down-on-her-luck neurotic and Teri Garr plays that very well. I do feel for her despite her being someone I would try to avoid in real life.

Sounds like Julie, Jessica Lange’s character.

Sandy got the shaft repeatedly. Michael treated her like crap. And she had to deal with very similar rejection to what Micheal endures at the beginning of the film.

Most of the characters aren’t very likable, especially Michael. They’re all egotistical creative types who think they shit rainbows. Some of them become more likable due to their interactions with Dorothy; Sandy doesn’t get that benefit.
