The Film was a critical and financial failure upon release and was described as "instant junk", "a wretched excess", and proposed as the most-hated film of all time by a film magazine.

so what could have made the film better, check out my latest video and find out and find out my score out of 10.

ITS PERFECT....PASS🙂

So why did it flop?

reply

AHEAD OF ITS TIME...

reply

Over the top gore, bleak ending, not a kid friendly movie for whole family...

reply

Two reasons.

1) E.T.

2) It was the goriest film ever made. Most viewers were completely turned off by it in 1982.

Why was Blade Runner a flop? The Shining? Scarface?

Upon release, none of these films were anything close to the classics they are today. In fact, De Palma and Kubrick were nominated for worst director by the Razzies.

reply

What does that have to do with its box office performance? By that logic, The Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Children Of Men, Scarface, A Simple Plan, The Iron Giant, The Wizard Of Oz, and Citizen Kane can't be perfect films? And, by your logic, a movie like Transformers 2 must be perfect?

reply

I agree, it is perfect.

I cannot believe that audiences and critics didn't appreciate this masterpiece when it came out.

reply

Audiences in general are dumb. They didn't appreciate Blade Runner either.

reply

Are you a film producer, or something?

reply

I don't want to spend 15 minutes on a video when you could probably explain your points in 10 short sentences in quick to read TEXT.

reply

Well....I would have liked a 5 min tour of that Spaceship.

Couldn't hurt the overall feel of the movie.

Make John Carpenter’s The Thing better?

How dare you!

Might as well try a new formula for Coca-cola first.

The thing (no pun intended) with remakes---even though this hardly resembles the original--- is you have to doubly suspend your disbelief. Because if there was any relation to the real world at all the characters would at least think, "isn't this kind of like the real life version of that movie?" but of the millions of remakes, not a single character (that I'm aware of) has ever uttered anything of the sort!
Anyway this one is well done for what it is---a horror film in the guise of sci-fi. The scenario of these "scientists" stuck in Antarctica is compelling...even if they don't resemble scientists in the least.
But please don't torture me by making me watch the prequel!

The only thing that would've made the film better is if were longer; add some more time to build some more suspense. That doesn't make the film any worse though; it's still a perfect suspense thriller.
