Surprised it's rated 'G'

I will have to rewatch it as I saw it as a kid but from what I remember and then being refresed a bit by reading the plot synopsis there were some pretty mature themes and tense moments in the movie. Animal testing and murder plots and dying kids, back in the early 80's society seemed a bit more strict on ratings too so I am surprised this did not get at least a PG.

Different standard back then. The Pink Panther was G, but it shows women in bra and panties, smoking and lots of violence.

This surprised me as well.
