Even if it was, it doesn't much matter. The Evil Dead had enough original camera work, visual effects, black humor and sound editing that it is original anyway. Personally, I think they both exploit well worn horror cliches. I've seen Equinox and it may have been an inspiration, who knows?

shareI read somewhere that Sam Raimi had never seen or heard of EQUINOX. Even if he had, all the two movies REALLY have in common is a book that raises demons and a taped incantation from that book that does the trick.
