Why did the girls go quiet when they saw Punjab?

When the orphans run up to the front door they are screaming to get in and they all go quiet when Punjab answers the door. Did he say something I couldn't hear? Did he put a trance on them? Or did he scare them and if so how and why?

reply

Because they're kids. If you had actually spent some time around some, you might understand how they act.
