Lee Ving.
share1. Erica (Coco) - Always got the best songs to sing.
2. Debbie (Lydia) - Sometimes tried a bit too hard and sounded bad.
3. Val (Doris) - Sweet voice but pretty weak at times.
The rest kind of sucked vocally.
Coco was definitely my fave of the original cast, but Nia Peeples was also awesome. I actually saw the kids from fame live in the 80s, the summer RIGHT before she was on the show, and she and jessie were on the tour, and it was being filmed as live tv special, and an announcer came out before the show and TOLD the audience some new cast members were going to be in the concert and to scream and shout enthusiastically for them because by the time the live show aired, we'd know who they were. I didn't need to be told twice--Nia did "Fire & Ice" by Pat Benatar and it totally rocked.

Doris, but she always got short-changed because she wasn't considered to be as beautiful as the others.....I remember one particular episode where Mr Sharofsky was casting for a musical where the female lead was supposed to be beautiful and also have a great singing voice.....so he was caught in a delemma having to choose between Doris and Holly. He said, " do I choose Holly because she has the FACE of an angel, or Doris because she has the VOICE of an angel " ???
Need I tell you the outcome of this ?? OF COURSE he chose Holly.
Far more of the female cast members could sing well than the male cast members. None of the male cast members really stood out to me as singers, whereas Debbie Allen (Miss Grant), Valerie Landsburg (Doris), Nia Peeples (Nicole), Janet Jackson (Cleo), Carrie Hamilton (Reggie), and Loretta Chandler (Dusty) could all sing well. Cynthia Gibb had a sweet voice too, she just didn't have much depth and power to her voice at the time -- I don't know what her singing voice is like now.
