Often, The Godfather 2, Aliens, Terminator 2 and The Dark Knight are listed as the greatest sequels ever made
As great as these are, they were follow-ups to great original films
Mad Max 2/Road Warrior is the only sequel I can personally think of, that is a terrific follow-up to a so-so original
Are there any other films that you can name where you have far far more affection or respect for the sequel than you do for its original?
I'm sure that most (if not all) of these have been mentioned already but oh well.

I wouldn't say that most of these are far superior to the first movie, I just like them better. The original might also be very close with these sequels. I like Alien better than Aliens and I like The Terminator better than T2.
