how is this only 7.1?

I dont understand how this could be so lowly rated. Such an amazing tale with intriguing themes and a lot of emotion. I love this movie. Anyone wanna provide any flaws that may give reason to this rating?

Dear Warden, You were right. Salvation lies within.

A lot of people can't take animal characters seriously for some reason. It confuses the hell out of me, but it's true.

As for critiques... well, the early chase scenes greatly downplay the threat to Todd (slapstick violence and silly music), which makes it harder to take Chief/Copper/Amos as serious adversaries later in the film.

I give it a perfect 10, literally. There is nothing wrong with this beautiful, moving, amazing film, in my opinion. Of course, I generally ADORE animal characters and accept them as willingly as (okay, probably more willingly than) human ones. And despite the hints of slapsticky comedy in this movie, I've never, ever had a problem taking the characters or story completely seriously. So I agree; that rating is less than the film deserves and doesn't justly indicate how wonderful it is.

I agree! This is like one of the best movies ever made, dude!!!

Amos Slade,you trigger-happy lunatic!Give me that gun!

Not an overstatement by any means!

Just the haunting, unforgettable music, and bittersweet (happy in ways, but OH, so, very SADDENING!) ending that grabs you by the neck and chokes you up mark it as an outstandingly beautiful, brilliant piece of film-making.

YES!Well said,dude!:D

This film definitely deserved at least a 9 on my books. I thought that this movie was very tragic, and quite depressing to say the least. The only other animated film that had me feeling like this was Grave of the Fireflies. I love this movie because it had everything. Humor, tragedy, compassion, love everything. This is definitely a film worth watching.

"Copper, you're my very best friend."
"You're mine too Todd."

:( Makes me cry all the time.

Maybe because the writing is sloppy and the execution poor? I mean, I get how people can like this movie, but at the same time one can see why it is considered the start of a lesser period for Disney.

The question was, "why only 7.1?" and the answer is, your opinion alone doesn't cut it, and these are some of the reasons why some people will find it a lesser effort. I think 7.1 is more than a generous rating.

I don't understand how it's this high. Easily one of the worst Disney classics, a totally juvenile and cliche story, really bad dialog, awful characters, horrible songs and no standout qualities.

There is no singing. Thats too manly for the main disney fags

I mean it when I say this deserves to be in the Top 250.

I think a 7.1 is a fair rating for this film. It does have some weak moments (for example, Chief surviving an almost certainly fatal hit from a freight train, Vixey being somewhat of a weak character, and the two birds' pointless pursuits of the caterpillar), and the humor sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. However, what this movie does well at is drama and intensity, and in developing Todd, Copper, Chief, Amos, Big Mama, and Widow Tweed. The chase and shooting scenes all had great intensity, the dynamic between Todd and Copper was very well-done and believable, the scene of Widow Tweed leaving Todd in the nature preserve packed a very strong emotional punch, and the last 10 minutes of the film (especially with Todd and Copper attacking each other and the extremely intense showdown with the black bear) were very well done.

My verdict: Despite some weaknesses, it pulls through and manages to be an overall well-done, and at times very dark, kid's film. A 7.1/10 suits it well.
