in this and the other Omen films. Back in the day when they were made, people started fearing that breed of dog, the way they feel about Pit Bulls now. Look at the rottie in the window before the baby gets "ironed" -- he's not really even growling, and looks more like he's hoping for some kibble.
shareI think I read somewhere that the dogs in this movie did not do anything. They attempted to make them look vicious but failed in doing so and only wanted to be pet by cast members and crew. They had a difficult time getting them to be mean.
shareI may have read that too. You can see they weren't gnashing their teeth or looking really mean and that the growls were dubbed in. Reminds me of a "vicious" dog guarding a woman prisoner on a soap I watched years ago. The dog was clearly standing there happily with his tongue hanging out and his tail wagging and they dubbed in these growls and barks to try to make him look like he was dangerous.
I can see those Rotties in the movie just wanting to play and be petted by the cast and crew!
They used Rotties because they go back to Roman times, so there's a "Christian" link of sorts. Also, they're built somewhat like Cerberus, the 3-headed dog that guards the gates of the underworld in mythology

Yes, like "Fluffy" in Harry Potter, that thing looked like Rottweilers.
Back in the 70's, there was a horror movie called "Devil Dog - The Hound of Hell". The movie featured a rottweiler. I guess the filmcrew remembers that movie, and decided to use rottweilers in all three Omen movies.
