Show of hands-- who else liked it?

I'm sorry to say this, but "The Final Conflict" is a good (if not great) movie, and a satisfying (if not entirely enjoyable) conclusion to one of the most promising sagas in cinematic history. I think the ending was magnificent and very reassuring (as a non-Christian!), and some of the imagery in the film is actually quite beautiful. Also-- I'd watch Rossano Brazzi in anything. Heh. But really, can I hear anyone agree with me? I'm sick of watching this film get brutalized. It's not as great as the original, but it's a far cry better than "Damien" and infinitely better than "The Awakening" and the needless 2006 remake.

Sickness will surely take the mime where mimes can't usually go.

Best one of the series in my opinion.

Given my quote, I can only agree!

It's great to see there are fans of this film out there. I think this film was very well done, mainly for the photography and the captivating score of Jerry Goldsmith. They definately should have left the franchise alone after this.

The best points I liked was the chemistry between Sam Neill and Lisa Harrow, the errie night shoots in Cornwall and the closing of the film. But the music was by far the perfect thing for me.

I'd recommend reading the film adaptation by Gordon McGill as there are scenes which made more sense in the book than in the film.

Might have to watch it again....!

reply

Aye! The music is definitely one of my favorite parts, and the photography too. In my mind, the end validated the entire series. I'm not a Christian, but somehow it made me feel a lot better.

PS-- ever seen the "Omen Legacy" documentary where the Satanist high priestess blasts the third film's finale? Um... yeah. Boo.

While the flims got progressively weaker as the series went along, they are all extremely well done. The final conflict was very enjoyable; great opening credit sequence, suicide of the ambassador, the fox hunt, slow conversion of the young boy to Damien's side. I was a fan when it first came out and remain one today!

I liked it. I watched this when I was 12 and I fell in love with Sam Neil. The whole soliloquy with the cross is a beautiful and powerful scene.

While it's true the series lost something with each sequel, I still love this film!

While I agree that the series grows progressively weaker with each installment, I actually personally prefer II to I.

I just finished watching this after being a fan of the orignal for some time. Whilst it lacks the chills of the first, it certainly ties the saga up nicely. Sam Neill did an excellent job keeping the character fresh whilst never going over the top, (Which could have been easily done). The film also did well in creating some memorable scenes, the ambassador suicide sticks out. It's an enjoyable conclusion to a great trilogy. Just a shame people are hopping on a band wagon of relentless bashing and petty complaints.

I love all three equally, and for me it ends there.

I can't stand No. 4, with the girl and the crappy New Age $hit, and the remake was inferior.

Star Trek: Multi-spectral subspace engines
SF Debris: So the shuttle is powered by rainbows?

I like it.

Sam Neil plays very well. Gives some excellent speeches and monologues. And i love how he can smile the same way as the child actor in the original one does.

Altough i never understood why the essential part of the original Omen, the signs on photograph showing the way of death, is missing in all other Omen movies...

I am a big fan of the series, but I must say I didn't like the script for this film. I thought the whole-murdering-babies thing was too grisly and gory, even for tales such as these. The film used shocking scenes for its impact, whereas the others relied mostly on suspense and storytelling.
I didn't like the ending either. It was anticlimactic, given its storyline.

I must say though Sam Neill was superb as Damien. He made him seem genuinely sinister yet suave and charming, almost in a Shakespearean way. That made him seem almost MORE chilling like this.
I fell in love with Sam Neill in this film (Not Damien only Sam!), who was then an unknown in the States.
I knew he's become a big star, he had what it took, and he did.

i loved it! its dark creepy and has the best atmosphere since the original. where as most deaths in Omen II were somewhat comical, Final Conflict is dead serious like the first film and Sam Neil is perfection as the adult Damien Thorn.

plus this is the darkest one of the whole series i think (i mean killing babies you dont get much more darker than that) and the score is really compelling in my opinion

I agree! I was surprised to see the low rating.
