There have been several pretty close ripoffs. Can you think of any more?

I'll also include the "official" sequel, as Escape from LA (1997) was much more of a ripoff remake than a real sequel.

We also have:

After the Fall of New York (1983) Low budget Snake Plissken, Michael Sopkiw, is forced to retrieve the last fertile woman on earth from the ruins of New York.

No Escape (1994) Ray Liotta Snake Plissken must escape from a penal colony on a jungle island.

Doomsday (2008) Woman Snake Plissken Rhona Mitra has to enter a plague-ridden Scotland to retrieve a cure that Scottish scientists may have developed.

Lockout (2012) Wisecracking Guy Pearce Snake Plissken must infiltrate a prison spaceship to rescue the President's daughter. Apparently this ripoff was so blatant it caused John Carpenter to successfully sue director, Luc Bisson.

Are there any others? I'm sure I must have overlooked some low-budget '80s or '90s productions. Note: I am not including "1990 The Bronx Warriors" as that was much more of a Warriors ripoff.

The only one that came to mind was Lockout. Which you already mentioned.

I remember watching that movie on tv & being confused on why this Escape from New York movie had no Snake Plissken, just a wannabe.

I had to google it while watching the movie.

Had no idea about the lawsuit.

1990 Bronx Warriors.

Best part of the movie was the last 5 minutes.

Citadel with Christopher Lambert

Children of Men sort of fits that mould as well, with it actually referencing After the Fall of New York several times as well.

Cyborg kind of does with Van Damme as a Plissken like figure escorting a robot woman to safety.

There's a litany of Filipino post-nuke movies which tried to varying degrees to copy Escape from New York. I haven't seen that many because I am not a massochist, but I do remember seeing clips of one with David Carradine where he was playing a very Plissken-like figure.

What about Running Man (1987)? A sci-fi movie about a guy who tries to escape from a dystopian reality.

One of my favorite Stephen King movies : )

I was surprised to see this is a mention, I just cannot see Escape From New York in this movie.

Lockout was more like a Diehard in Space to me.
