I completely disagree, i thought the music made the scenes a lot scarier

I agree. The music was heart-stopping to me when I first heard it, and for many viewings after.
It still packs a chill or two.

I also liked the music because it told the audience when the Entity was "lurking" even when there was no attacks.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I hated the constant clanging. It definitely hurt the movie.

"Cain and Abel will go to Heaven... if they can make it through Hell!"

The first time the music hit I thought it was pretty scary and intense but then it gets a bit much when this music seems come on every 10 minutes!

That music actually scared the *beep* out of me!!
*beep* I just killed a whole *BEEP* sheriff's department!" - Sheriff Hoyt

It's a shame that complete score album left off the electric guitar sound of the Entity attacks.

We will be cruel to the Germans, and through our cruelty, they will know who we are.

The last time I saw this movie, I was watching it at night in the living room with a vaulted ceiling and a fan that had a rhythmic clicking sound - the exact same cadence as the music that plays when the geist enters. Kind of an ever-present reminder while I was watching the movie.

This piece is actually used now in the film Inglorious Basterds. I know this is an old thread. I thought it was hilarious when used in that film, but didn't recognize it. Even with that knowledge, its still scary in The Entity.

The boyfriend and I watched this tonight. I'd seen it about 15 years ago but he never had.
When the music played for the first time he immediately said "That's the opening riff of Wolf And Man by Metallica!"
After the movie he played it for me and I agree, it sounds just like it. You can hear a *bit* (as it's not the beginning of the song) of what I'm referring to in the sample here:

If your'e referring to the 'Bangk-Bangk-Bangk-Bangk' when the ghost was attacking, yes it does closely resemble that lick from the Metallica cut you referenced, but especially with a subwoofer in the home theater system and the way the sound was incorporated into the storyline of the movie it makes for an impressive effect that compliments the movie as it should.

Now imagine a version of The Entity on DVD being played in conjunction with a D-Box system on a chilly, October night, as the D-Box system tips your seat around and rumbles your living room floor during the attacks, that's make for a spooky viewing experience of this movie, doncha think?

It feels like I am being raped in the comfort of my living room! Thanks D-Box!

If you are Anti-American: Admit you are doing it just to be cool. Does it feel good to hate?

I snuck and watched this film in 86 at the age of 8 and still can't watch it with the sound up. That guitar riff will stick with you.I might be able to sit through it now but then forget it.It had me afraid to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.LOL

Lamont-"Are you telling me you would hit a lady?!?"
Fred-"No I wont hit no lady,but I'll hit her!"

reply

I thought the music really fit the scene. That sound (music) conveys a feeling of weight. That ghost must have really been pounding her hard.

I just had a terrible thought... what if she hadn't had it in quite a while and maybe enjoyed it a little? Possible? Impossible? I'm a sicko?

reply

Nawww, most sex therapists would likely attest that 'females don't have those feelings or thoughts'- we know that's hogwash but therapists and clergy actually say stupid things like that in the name of appointed guidance and counselling and scary thing is that they still maintain their qualifications to teach and administer. Oh, those poor patients...

But no, I wouldn't consider you sicko for speculating on that, not by me anyway. lol

reply

Given that the attacks were invisible, and sexual, I think they wanted a sound that simulated the sex act, but one that was also relentless and scary. Whether it was scary is in the ear of the beholder.

reply

I thought the music fit the movie well. I had no problem with it.

*shrugs*

At the very first hearing it really sounded a bit outdated and campy--like amplifying the rape in a not so suitable way, but later it grew pretty upsetting actually. The 'theme' s main purpose was (and totally succesfull by that) to manifest an absolute RELENTLESSNESS.

As for the Metallica connection, I don't see it.

reply

I laugh too. It's a good random joke to throw out while watching something.

reply

"THe Themes Purpose..." ahhhh so that's what it was. That theme had a purpose!!! No I get it.

I think the heavy tones gives a very oppressive feel, like ur ear drums are being violated. Unfortunatly it sounds very similar to my washing mashine, (Yes i feel like i'm getting violated by my washing machine)
