I worked on the film "The Entity" as Barbara Hershey's photo double/stand in, and also played "the receptionist" in the opening credit sequence. I was present through-out the entire shoot, and many strange, odd, and interesting things did occur. The effects were very well done and involved for the era. If you have any questions regarding the production and behind the scenes details or the low down, feel free to ask, I just may tell all.
Firstly, it takes a "miracle" for any film to get made so "all" movie sets are tense... however... on this film every one seemed to have "car trouble" (cast and crew alike) ... delaying our daily start time(s) ... lights would crash to the floor... or turn on and off without warning/cause... electrical power failures happened often... and other odd /freaky set accidents... the boy who played the "son" was almost electrocuted...
Barbara Hershey was always professional but quick tempered due to her exhausting schedule/scenes... she and Ron Silver became rather "close" during the shoot... Sidney Furie was always intense but excited each day to be there!
I can understand you being a double for some scenes requiring a real human and human movement but I know that for the special effects scenes, a polymer cast mannequin torso(s) had been employed.
I read in a movie magazine back in early summer of 1981 where a female special effects technician had been interviewed that several mannequin torsos had been created for the invisible entity sexual assault scenes. The female special effects tech claimed that she participated in the fabrication of the mannequin torso props in the workshop. She added that wires or strings were attached to the undersides of the torso breasts. During filming, special effects techs lay concealed under a false floor. On cue the techs would gently pull the wires or strings, and above the visual effects would be that of invisible fingers pressing down on Carla Moran's breasts.
My question, is why would Barbara Hershey need a body double? It's not a critique against you. It's plain logical curiosity. What did you have to do in the filming that Hershey could not have done herself. There were no acrobatics, falling great heights, or danger stunts involved. The assault scenes of course would require the special effects mannequin props. All I remember Hershey doing throughout the movie is normal walking about and some running.

The original poster did not state that she was Barbara's body double but rather her stand-in. A stand-in is a person who is a photo double. That means that while a scene is being set up (the lighting, cameras, boom mike, etc.), the stand-in will walk, sit, or say some lines while the crew tests to see how this will look or sound on camera when the final result is actually filmed with the actor on-set. This helps to relieve the actor from being on-set all day, and also allows for faster, effective shooting, as the crew has figured out how the scene is to be shot in the future when the actor present.
Stand-ins rarely appear on film, posing as the actor, unless they also work as body doubles. Most actors will still require a separate body double and a stand-in, although I have also heard of body doubles acting as stand-ins, too.

Ah, one learns something new everyday. I didn't know there was a difference between, 'stand in', and 'body double', and, 'photo double', which you just taught me.
Thanks... I always wondered how they did the Special-Effects in this movie, making it look as though a ghost was grabbing her breasts, etc.. Good informative post...
A head's up for anyone who's interested in responding to the OP. I went back and forth with her through email and PMs. Although I do believe she was who she said she was, she wouldn't answer specific questions and took forever to reply – if at all. Why she posted here offering "tell all" information is beyond me. She really had nothing to say. Disappointing.
As I stated in a previous post, I was in contact with her via email but she proved to be somewhat flakey and really didn't offer much information. Like I said before, I do believe she was who she said she was but her promise to "tell all" never materialized. It's too bad because it would have made for very interesting reading for this board. Maybe she'll return and follow up – but don't hold your breath.
one question did the entity die at the end? because i read somewhere one of the reviews said it eventually was coerced into materializing which leads to its demise.

The answer to that question is at the very end when the credits begin to roll.
