It was just to show you the purity there was in that island.

Well not really to be honest with you because things are very much different in Europe or in other cultures compared to here in the states.

Didnt read the thead.. just replying.

no cuz back then nudity wasnt forced on you as shameful and dirty and naughty and something bout a book with a god in it and how it's bad. so i doubt it did. now these modern sissies alot of parents are raising by censoring everything away....sure they might have problems just seeing a little naked flesh. but oh well.

That was probably the most pure image of the bond between mother & son ever depicted in movies.

Some cultures sexualize nudity (especially in America). Nudity is perfectly natural.

Since so many different myths were crammed into this one movie, maybe this was an allusion to Oedipus the true mf'er.

While I appreciated the innocence and purity of the scene, I was a little uncomfortable as to whether this could be considered child porn.

Look up the definition of porn first.

The real question is:
"WHY NOT???"

My only regret is that she was walking AWAY from the camera instead of TOWARD it.

Jesus christ what a stupid question... were you traumatized on your wedding night?
"OH MY GOD YOU'RE NAKED!!! I'M SO SCARED!!"

Do any of you seriously have a problem with these scenes? As has been said bathing suits would not exist for many thousands of years. Also said earlier most if not all forms of physical exercise were done completely nude for example the earlier Olympic Games were done this way, things as simple as a race were done stark naked, and the original gymnasiums all of the people who exercised in them did it naked (gymnasium roughly translates to a place to exercise naked).
It is very likely that the ancient Greeks were not as ashamed of their bodies as many people today are. As Perseus's grandfather meant for him and his mother to die when they were put in that container, I doubt they had many clothes to begin with. In response to nudity and Adam and Eve in the myth god created them naked he didn't see any reason to give them clothes and they didn't have any need for them. God first suspected something was wrong when they decided to hide from him and hide their bodies from each other. God asked why they were hiding from him they responded it was because they were naked he responds "Who told you were naked?" no reply is ever given. Some religions use this as reasons for nudity not necessarily being sinful.
I hope none of this seems to wordy or oddly divided but I have always had trouble with that kind of thing.

Yes, and too bad the mentality isn't the same today. I have heard certain people make comments about the females in the Olympics-- how they especially love to watch the gymnasts because you can see everything on their young bodies (coming from 40 year old men.) These were not private comments, either-- proving how disgusting and degrading our country has become.

The Olympics used to be contested completely nude; it was actually a strict dress code. Competitors were only made to cover up once they started putting it on TV.
