End Scene: Wondering if David attacked out of primal fury or did so to finally lift the curse

I saw this in a YouTube comment and decided to bring it here to hear your opinions. Basically the poster theorized that David intentionally lunged towards Alex so that the cops could shoot and kill him. At this point she finally got through to David, with him now realizing the weight of keeping his victims in limbo and the death count he's accumulated. He couldn't outright kill himself via suicide so this may have been the best way to go. The common answer is that he was still out of his mind and was attacking Alex as a typical werewolf would. What do you all think?

There was a momentarily look of recognition of Alex , because no matter what , David was still in there somewhere , but unfortunately when in wolf form , the beast was to powerful to keep at bay for no more than a brief second.

I always thought he recognized her but knew he could not live any longer with the curse and putting her and others at risk, so he bluff charged her knowing the cops would kill him.
