According to Crispin Glover, Robert Zemeckis saw Used Cars as a "weird movie."
I don't think this movie is weird, but it's kind of edgy. I can maybe see someone like Zemeckis thinking it's weird. He's very talented (up there with Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, James Cameron and Christopher Nolan as far as commercial/blockbuster directors go) but not the most artsy dude judging by some of his comments on the Forrest Gump DVD audio commentary from 2001.
