I wasn't aware this movie was a bomb.
Recently saw the 'Back to the Future' episode of 'The Movies that Made Us' on Netflix, and they discuss Robert Zemeckis' and Bob Gale's history together, and how 'Used Cars' was one of their first efforts.
They said it was a bomb, and almost short-circuited their careers. When I saw this movie at the theaters, I thought it was the funniest things I'd seen in a while. I still pull out the DVD every few years to get a chuckle.
I guess that even though it was a bomb, the right people saw the same thing I did, and realized the two Bobs had talent. If not for that, 'Back to the Future' may have never happened.
