Used Cars still = best comedy ever imho
shareHere it is 10 YEARS since Morgose started this much-deserved time capsule....Blessed are those that have seen Used Cars multiple times as you are the chosen ones - you are those that laugh at the hysterics of one of the most underrated comedy classics of the past - well, er..... 33 years!! Long Live used Cars!!!
10 years and this thread is still going.... Awesome, this movie deserves more exposure. It's so damn funny.
Take that you dirty old high prices!
I wonder if morgose will ever come back here?
shareHere is my personal time capsule on this the funniest movie I have ever seen:
First saw it on HBO in 1981 when I was a senior in high school.
Had to go to my 'rich' friend's house to see it at 1am because they were the only ones in the neighborhood who had HBO.
I now watch it on DVD w/ my 10 yr old son, he loves taking a test drive with Toby!
Keith Moon was the greatest 'Keith Moon Style' drummer ever!!share

I hate to admit it, but this is my first time looking at this Movie tonight on Fox Classics,it was very funny, so just putting this into the time capsule too.
Loved the little dog and the dodgy but hilarious used car salespeople,I was a little surprised at all the naked shots, but as someone mentioned, great to see real bodies without all the "enhancements".
a classic
shareI LOVE Used Cars. This movie has so many brilliant moments and lines and yet, it's so incredibly underrated.
shareWow...the OP, Morgose, registered with IMDb in Sept. 2003 to leave this one and only post, never to return, unlike his proposal to come back every 5 years. Was he a "hit & run" poster? Do you think he became disenchanted with the messege boards after perusing a few and found an abundance of negativity and didn't think about deleting his one and only post? Did he meet an unfortunate and untimely demise shortly after his posting? I wonder...what, indeed, has become of Morgose?
**these go to eleven **
Checking in. This movie is a great, forgotten classic. Heck, it was forgotten shortly after its release but was a mainstay on HBO, etc. in the early eighties. It's gone now. It'd be a good cheap pickup for Netflix.
I thought the OP was saying this movie is a time capsule, which is surely is. Captures the cynicism of the waning Carter years pretty darn well.
We've reached 2015 and this thread, like Used Cars, lives on. Watching it DVR'ed. Just now...
Jeff: See that woman out there?
Rudy: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jeff: She's trouble, pally. She just pulled up in that red Toyota.
Rudy: For Pete's sake, Jeff, give me a break.
Jeff: No no no! I think she's from the Consumer Protection Agency. Now you see the way she's looking at that blue Chevy? She knows it's a taxi.
Rudy: You're paranoid, Jeff. She's got great legs.
Jeff: Great legs, but I bet the first thing she asks is, "Where's the owner?"
Rudy: Jeff, that is a great looking girl. And girls who look that great don't work for the Consumer Protection Agency.
Jeff: Okay, but just don't let the little head do the thinking for the big head. (picks a pint bottle of whiskey)
Rudy: Trust me.
Jeff (taking a long swig and mutters): Huh? I do...
Rudy (to Barbara outside): Congratulations! Yeah, you! (walks over) This is our give-away week. Since you're our 100th customer, you win, whether I sell you a car or not. You've won a candlelight dinner for two at the restaurant of your choice. But I can see there's only one of you. Tell you what I'm gonna do. Think I'll throw myself in with the deal. How's that sound?
(long pause while she looks shyly at the ground)
Barbara: Listen, can you tell me where I might find the owner?
Great movie, funny dialog.
Ha! I'm gonna use that pick up line.
And, now I'm going to see if this movie is on Netflix.
