I really want to talk about The Stunt Man with someone, d*mn it. Why this movie isn't better known remains a mystery to me. It's funny, insightful, dark, and Peter O'Toole steals my heart all over again each time I watch it.

I'm villifying you, for God's sake--pay attention!

I first watched this movie in a converted army mess hall while stationed in West Germany in 81, it hooked me from the opening scene and has been one of my all time favorites since. Peter O'Toole was brilliant, this movie is a classic, it could not be made today.

I pretty much watch The Stuntman every time it is on cable. including just this morning on TCM . I have a factory copy on vhs, but can't find the darn thing. plus, it's not letter box. but i'd watch it anyway.
I saw it way back on hbo in 82, or 82. was hooked from the start. it really is under rated.
I read about it's history here, and was surprised it sat on a self for nearly 2 years before it was released. I am just glad it was made.

I was one of the lucky ones who saw the movie early in its world premiere engagement in Seattle in the summer of 1980. It was so hard to beleive that a movie this extraordinary was having trouble even getting a limited release. The audience really connected with the movie, there was often applause at the end. This being a time of cheaper gas and less border hassles, I drove down from Vancouver four more times to see it. it was like having your own little possession. You wanted everyone to know what a great movie it was, but also to be able to savor it on your own. Seen it countless times since then and always notice something new and different. A great movie. Peter OToole as Eli Cross is one of the great screen performances, and despite DeNiros much-heralded weight gain for Raging Bull,(that really was a stunt!), OToole was robbed at Oscar time. But that is a subject for a different board.

Yall take it easy now, this isnt Dallas, this is Nashville.
