Words cannot express how much I hate this film. It's depressing and not entertaining at all! I throw up at the thought of sitting through it again!

If someone dislikes RAGING BULL because they can't stomach the bloody violence or the copious amounts of R-rated language on parade, I say that's just fine... but anyone who dismisses it as "boring" or calls it "overrated" or a "piece of crap" knows nothing about cinema and should keep their ignorant yap shut. Here's a bit of advice for the people in question: If a film is showered with hordes of praise by people far smarter than you, yet you can't find anything to appreciate about it, consider the possibility that you're out of your league intellectually and emotionally with said movie and get to steppin'.

I'm sorry you don't or can't enjoy it. I strongly disagree with your opinion. I think that it's possibly related to your current state of mind as well or maybe what you expected when going into it and you got tunnel vision on those set objectives of the movie that it didn't satisfy. Maybe you should give it some time and years later try it again, who knows , you might see it in another way and enjoy it as well.
shareI agree. This film is awful in my opinion. The script is silly, the acting is nothing special and Jake had no redeeming qualities. Why this film was made I have no idea. He goes around slapping people, shooting his mouth off and then feels sorry for himself once people don't want to associate with him anymore.. Is that supposed to be an enlightenment? lol. The production value is the only good part about this highly overrated film.

Pretty funny coming on here to see someone bashing this movie, right after getting off of the board for Bringing Out The Dead and seeing people insist it was a masterpiece.

In terms of a writing/directing/acting team at the top of their game, Taxi Driver towers over this in every conceivable way. The main problem I have with it being so highly rated is people actually consider this to be the best thing Deniro and Scorsese ever worked on together. Even King of Comedy was superior.
