I watched the 2K remaster today in the UK. I saw in the mid 1990s on VHS. Plus, I do have the DVD now. But - seeing it on the big screen was a superb experience. As others have said to the original OP of this thread - give it another go. I suppose, I can see that the opening section of the film might be confusing(I didn't find it - but I must admit it is unique) - it does set the plot in motion for events later on in the film. The film has a more political edge to it than other gangster films - it was really setting the tone for Thatcherism with some of Harold's speeches, etc. I love the soundtrack by Francis Monkham as well. Just amazing. The cast is great as well : Hoskins, Mirren, Brosman(pre-Bond and Remmington Steele), Paul Freeman(Raiders of the Lost Ark), Derek Thompson(Charlie from Casualty), Karl Howman(Brush Strokes on TV), Gillian Taylforth(Kathy from Eastenders), Alan Ford(Snatch), P. H. Moriarty(Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barallels)and Kevin McNally(Pirates of the Caribbean). Great camera work and cinematography in this film as well.
Sad thing about this film - no surround soundtrack. :-(
