I was digging through my video collection and found my old VHS copy of "The Earthling" and ended up entranced by the story and performances of William Holden and young Ricky Schroder. What an excellent story of survival and lessons in life, and inevitable death. I take Ricky Schroder very seriously as a young actor after watching this. There was much more to him than the "cuteness" of Silver Spoons.

After watching it I wanted to replace my old VHS copy with a DVD and was very disappointed to learn that "The Earthling" isn't available on DVD. Why???

This movie should be on DVD!

If you Google--"The Earthling" DVD--and click for "shopping" options, you'll find a few copies of the DVD. I can't vouch for it in any way, I was just looking for it myself (great movie!) and stumbled upon some.

I will report as to the quality of the transfer when I get my copy.

I used to see this movie on HBO in the early 80s. I was around 10 years old and the camper going over the side was terrifying as I could relate to the kid's distress. I re watched the VHS version a while back and the movie is as good as I remember. As of fan of genre movies, I am quite familiar with movies being locked in stupid ownership cluster Fs such as Clive Barker's Nightbreed.

There is now a proper official release of the Earthling on DVD with a beautiful print - DVD King in Brisbane sells it for $15.88 and they post anywhere in Australia for $4.
