Wait a minute... this came out AFTER "Star Wars"?

Okay, it's playing on a free streaming channel that will put anything on, and it looks absolutely pre-Star Wars. It has all the cheap matte effects and cheesy futuristic production design that Star Wars made obsolete.

At first I assumed it was from around 1972, but then, it became clear that the writers were trying very hard to rip off SW, even if they were undermined by the special effects department and the set designers.

Believe it or not, James Cameron was actually in charge of both special effects and art direction for this movie. It was his first major job in Hollywood.
