Walking the BOARDS.

in the early 1980's and this past summer i was struck by the changes this film brouht back to me. Places gone for all time. and the run down areas that were there then and still there, now. and Robert Goulet showed how sleazy he had become.

responding to th last person the apartment building used, the vermont apartments, in the south inlet of Atlantic City, was a block from my family's homes in the inlet. Both of the rowhomes are seen when lou and the other guy walk back after first meeting. Its weird for me to see homes in the neighborhood as in, there's so much vacant land.

my wife and i ate at 'the white house ' sandwhich shop where Lancaster used the telephone, and the shop was almost empty. now you have to wait day or night for a seat. the block where the shop is a stone's throw from the casinos and even the high rollers eat there or send someone for them. we talked to a card player from the south and he eats there and not the big buffets once a day. they have a note that here is the place they stood. i am glad some one mentioned Ocean City. is your family still there?

Wow...White House Subs is an Atlantic City landmark. Did you notice all the famous photos on the wall when you were there? Sinatra, the Rat Pack, Beatles, Ed Sullivan...a real Who's Who. I drove limo for 8 years in the 90s and high rollers would regularly request to go there instead of some casino eatery, or get takeout for the ride home. But parking? Fuggedaboudit.

I'm a lifelong resident and here is a little sad info for ya. A Whitehouse cheesesteak is up to about $8.00 as of the summer of '08. Totally worth it thought!

It's still a bargain when you compare it with prices we pay out west for sandwiches that aren't a third as good. What the tourists don't know is how many OTHER great sub shops there are in south Jersey. When I lived there, I had one place for Whipped Tuna with provolone, another for steak, one offshore for meatball, and still another for the "special" subs which is a regular (cold cut) with extra meat. I gain ten pounds every time I visit.

Atlantic City’s boardwalk is good. Walk literally one block away, however, and you’re in a ghetto
