Inquiry about the antique store

Like others on this board. I do wonder about Susan going into the house and exactly when and how she got vamped.

But the antique store baffles me even more. Why go to all the trouble of opening an expensive antique store when your boss is biting up all the potential business. The only thing you're gonna have are vampires in town. Everyone who's not bitten is gonna skip out.

And the mansion. No one had lived there in 20yrs, which looked to be about right from the outside. But the inside looked like it was about 100yrs old. They didn't match.

I hadn't seen this move since I was a kid. All it did was scare me, and I didn't notice the story. It's pretty good.

I've seen this so many times, and that never occurred to me before. Does Straker open an antiques shop in every place they settle? If so, I guess it's all the same stock that he takes with him or has shipped each time to wherever they're setting up next.

reply

If what you say is true, that's even MORE messed up.

reply

How is that messed up its a great front and they never need to buy new stock also it fits in with the design of how the master is transported.

reply

He uses the antique store so he can ship Barlow into town in a crate and avoid any suspicion. Everyone assumes it's a large antique for the shop.

reply

That's a lot to go through just because you're worried that some people might wonder what's in the big box you just received. People have things shipped to them all the time. It's not unusual.

reply

Exactly. And even in '79, people had things shipped. And who's gonna notice a crate sent to an old mansion that no one really gives a crap about.

reply

Indeed.

My guess is that the purpose of the antiques store was simply to provide some reason for Straker being in the town. Why would this outsider suddenly move there? It at least gives the established residents a reason for his presence and helps to avoid unnecessary gossip while Straker waits for Barlow.

You're right though that the whole storyline of the antiques store feels underdeveloped. It seems like it should've been more significant than it ends up being.
