After Mickey tells Rocky that he can't fight again, Rocky works at Mickey's gym doing odd jobs like emptying the spit bucket. It always bothered me how the other fighters in the gym treated Rocky like dirt, despite the fact that he just went the distance with the greatest fighter in the world. Like when he says "whoops," the other guy says "is that all you know how to say is whoops." Rocky should have jumped in the ring and beat that guy senseless.

It wasn't even remotely believable. Mick said himself that Rocky was like royalty at that gym, which is very believable, but everyone turning on him overnight because of a cartoon in the newspaper? I don't think so. Bad writing.
All these moments, insults with his wife around,...etc. made it all the more sweeter for Rocky when in the end his character in all his humbleness prevailed. I enjoyed Rocky 2 for this particular reason. He takes a beating both inside and outside the ring.

The difference between them is that guy in the practice ring is a nothing/nobody with a piece of shit where his heart should be, and Rocky has the gold heart of a champion. Which is why he didn't even consider going HAM on the prick.
