What made Adrian change her mind?

She didn't want Rocky to fight. She goes into a coma. When she wakes, she's changed her mind. Did she have a dream that made her opinion change? Was there a dramatic reason for the change of heart? Or is it just that she sees how Rocky stuck by her while she was out cold and decided she should stand by him too?

Yeah, that could be it. It's a good point.

I always figured that when Rocky told her to stop asking him to not be a man, that changed something inside her. She was kinda stuck between two things at that point ie wanting him to fulfil his dreams but not get permanently hurt. When she woke up, I guess she decided the risk was worth the reward for Rocky as it was all he knew how to do. She believed, or just hoped, he'd be ok.

Similar to the point you made, maybe she thought if she survived a coma, Rocky would survive, too? They were both tough.

Rocky stayed by her side the entire time she was in a coma, he supported her while she was facing the odds, she realized she could do the same for him.

Having a baby probably changed her perspective on things. She would have realized that now they have to support the child and the way Rocky is able to be a man and provide is by fighting. They didn't really have time for Rocky to find another calling in life after the baby was born.

reply

So being pregnant and knowing that a baby was on the way didn't change her mind but actually giving birth did? Also there is no way that Adrian would ever want Rocky to almost get killed just for money (her attitude in Rocky V completely contradicts that), see my above response, that is the actual reason.

I don't think you understand this movie.

reply

There is a difference between being pregnant and seeing your child alive and breathing in the world. It is a major reason why women can get abortions without enduring a lifelong moral conundrum.
She now has a life to support and is unable to work, Rocky is a bum at that point who cannot get any work and the only thing he can do well is fight.

reply

That makes absolutely no sense at all, even if I grant you your first premise (even though there is no corroborating evidence from the movie), Adrian would never want Rocky to go out and risk his life just for money, everything we know about Adrian suggests the complete opposite.

It's a lot deeper than what you're giving it credit for, you seem like the kind of person who would prefer Rocky IV.

reply

It makes perfect sense, the evidence from the movie is she has a baby and makes the comment after they see the baby together, before that she was dead set against Rocky fighting. But from your point of view if Adrian did not have a baby and went into a coma and Rocky stayed with her in the hospital, she would still encourage him to fight?
She wasn't in a coma for 5 years it was a couple of days.

I don't prefer Rocky 4 but I think it is a good sequel and could understand if someone did like that film the best.

reply

And now you’re lying about what I said. You are just making stuff up not to mention your premise is contradicted by Adrian’s character in every other Rocky film. I clearly explained to you why she changed her mind about Rocky fighting and the fact that you think she wanted him to risk his life for money (even though she was willing to work) is only showing your own ignorance.

"if Adrian did not have a baby and went into a coma and Rocky stayed with her in the hospital, she would still encourage him to fight?" LordRake summarizing MovieChatUser497's argument but subtracting the baby from the scenario because his argument sees no relevance in that significant plot point. How is that lying about what you said?

You seem caught up on the money aspect as if it is insincere or wrong for Adrian to want him to do something dangerous for money. The whole beginning of the film is Rocky going from having money to broke because he cannot do anything else but fight, the reason he is going to fight Creed again is to make money for his family. Adrian had to work while pregnant because Rocky could not support her and she became ill. He's risking his life to provide for his family, that means making money.

reply

Kid, Adrian knew about the baby even back when she wasn’t supporting Rocky. Adrian has made it quite clear the entire franchise she doesn’t care if she’s rich or poor. That’s why she told him not to take Don Kings offer. This movie isn’t that hard to understand so I’m quite confused as to why you are so confused.

You aren’t basing this off of anything, you are just making things up, there is nothing about Adrian’s character that ever suggest she’d risk Rocky’s life for money, she loves him more than anything , he is the only one who ever stood by her and she realized that she could stand by him. You are either trolling or beyond stupid, I wouldn’t be surprised if both were true.

reply

Ok Sonny Jim, but the entire movie was Rocky trying to make a living through different career paths and failing. Adrian knew Rocky was willing to stick by her before the coma, she is simply letting him do what he has to do to support her and the child after the coma.

reply

OK now I think I'm getting through to you, yes after Rocky didn't abandon her when she was facing death she realized she shouldn't abandon Rocky when he is going into a life threatening situation. It wasn't because she just wanted money, throughout the entire movie she was willing to find the money another way that didn't involve fighting, also she didn't need to be rich, she didn't care if she was poor.

reply

Probably the bills stacking up after 6 months of them not getting paid

reply

Yeah, I didn’t know why she changed her mind either. Maybe she realized she couldn’t work, as she ended up in a coma because of overwork. So they needed that $$$

reply

Its a known medical fact that when one comes out of a coma, many previous personal decisions change
