If this movie was remade...

I think Rob Zombie should give some serious thought to re-making this epic horror movie. I think it's right up Rob's alley. I'm sure someone like him could make it without pulling any punches, and possibly make it the scariest, most shocking horror film of all time, only to replace the current holder of that title in my opinion... the original. What do you think? Would you like to see this remade?

If this was remade today, they'd have to tame the violence so much. There's no way they could get away with some of the things they did in this film today and get it released without an X-rating. I know they have more special effects now that they wouldn't have to kill actual animals, but I think the animal rights activist groups would still be mad.

Why on Earth would you need to remake this movie? It's as powerful now in 2012 as it was when it came out. Still shocking, disgusting, disheartening, and graphic.

This movie isn't entertainment = it's a PSA.

I agree. No need for a remake. I just watched this for the first tint yesterday, and I was more disgusted from it than any newer film has every made me. But... I'm pretty sure Eli Roth is working on something where he's going to film out in the forest much like this film. I think the title had something to do with "The Green Inferno."

reply

Except it's not. The movie pretty much sucks.

Do I want a remake? No. Do I think one could work? No.

Remakes have a tendency to fail, and I question how this would stand next to the original anyway. Another thing is that they wouldn't be able to pull off or get away with the sheer excess of high violence of the original without it being heavily cut to barely get an X rating. One other thing that would worry me is if it would rely too much on CGI instead of staying true to the original and going the practical route.

But do I approve of or want a remake of this, no. Don't fix what isn't broken.

I don't think it should be remade. But if somebody was to do it, then they could make it more into a pseudo-documentary (mockumentary). The original Cannibal Holocaust is only partly a pseudo-documentary - the found footage of the first expedition is presented as a documetary, but the rest of the film is shot in a "regular" manner. Given the recent popularity of pseudo-documentaries, the remake could be presented 100 percent in a documentary fashion.

Wasn't there going to be a sequel directed by Deodato? I could have sworn I saw a poster for it on here or other site. Something about urban jungle or maybe it was fan made. Does anyone know?

Nah. Zombie would just cast his wife as Faye. Who wants to see that? Eli Roth would be a better choice, but I agree with most of the other in this thread that a remake isn't needed.

And Eli Roth would cast his girlfriend Lorenza Izzo as Faye, like he's been making her a main character in most of his newer films he's making, like Aftershock and Knock Knock. I do believe she's a top billed character in his version of this film, "The Green Inferno". They all seem to cast their women as their leads anymore.

reply

yep the green inferno is the remake
