Coppola did right to leave out the Montagnards dancing and singing their primitive rendition of "Light My Fire", but the ghostly sampan with its monkey crew and mutilated man and the huge bomber tail in the river should definitely have been left in.

No problem. I found it so creepy and atmospheric. It would have been nice to see as part of the movie.

Is this in the Redux version, or is this something that has come out since then?

It's not in the Redux unless maybe in the DVD/BluRay special features. I just found it on Youtube a while ago.

It reminds me of the monkey raft in Aguirre The Wrath of God. I wonder if Coppola was consciously ripping off Herzog?
