Try to see the Twilight Zone episode "The Dummy" with Cliff Robertson. Probably one of the scariest doll thrillers.

Batman : The Animated Series.

The character called simply 'The Ventriloquist' is based upon this character from Magic.

The "Living doll" Twilight Zone episode scared the crap out of me when I was little. I haven't seen it since I was like 7, but I bet it would still haunt me now.

I can't believe no one mentioned 'Black Devil Doll From Hell' the greatest dollsploitation movie EVER. Some other good ones are 'Meet The Feebles', 'Ragdoll' and the series 'Puppets who Kill' just to name a few.

"The Living Doll" episode from the old Twilight Zone is definitely one of the creepist doll episodes EVER. When I was a kid, it gave me the creeps big time. And a real terrifying ending as well. It's the best of the 'doll' episodes that were served up by the Twilight Zone.

"Tourist trap" is excellent. Fans of mannequins and dolls MUST seek it out. It's quite eerie.

As mentioned, the doll scene in "Beyond the Door" is creepy as well.

There was an excellent doll episode from the old Night Gallery series too. Something about dolls being delivered to people and then killing the recipients. Haven't seen it in decades though.

Wow, no idea this idea was THAT overused. I mean, I knew it was a cliche, but I didn't know it was THAT overused

The Fear was a just a terrible terrible movie. Does anyone remember the TFTC episode Strung Along? I can remember watching it on Fox when TFTC got syndicated when i was 8 or 9 years old. Don't remember having nightmares, but it was definitely CREEPY. That, Magic, Trilogy of Terror, The Ventriloquist from B:TAS, & The Dummy always seem to stick out for me. I just recently saw Night Gallery for the first time. There was an episode on the 1st season DVD called The Doll. The episode was OK, but the ending was kinda scary.

Great thread, this should be on one of the main thread pages.

Not a killer doll a such, but the appearance of a doll in Deep Red (Profondo Rosso) is effectively creepy.

The Great Gabbo (1929), read this plot from imdb:

An insanely, egocentric ventriloquist, even though he is possessed by his wooden dummy, is in love with a dancer who is in love with another. The dummy gives advice to the ventriloquist.

its in public domain available free download

AND...

The Devil-Doll (1936):

An escaped Devil's Island convict uses miniaturized humans to wreak vengeance on those that framed him.

I went through the list trying to find a reference to this and finally had to start fresh with Google. A "doll" story that has stuck with me and still seems scary to me some 40 years later is Alfred Hitchcock's "Where the Woodbine Twineth."

how can anyone not list the greatest doll movie off all, IMHO, Tod Browning's 1936 "Devil Doll" starring Lionel Barrymore? Awesome movie! Move over Mr Potter! I'd be curious if anyone else had seen this movie and what they think.

reply

You all missed "Dead of Night". But don't make that analogy or you might be criticized that all of the other maniac doll movies were inspired by DOT.

reply

Well this isn't one of them.
