OK, Who Gets Sentimental as HELL About This Movie?

And chokes up at the very THOUGHT of a yellow bug traveling Route 1 as "Ready to Take a Chance Again" plays in the background?

Show of hands, please.

I.

However, my favourite part of the movie is the whole houseboat scene with Tony and Gloria. I'm a guy, but it's such a lovely scene. I love the music, too.

I love that scene at the begining with the berry manilow song.I love this film

Meeeeeeeeeeeeee! Can't help myself. More than 30 years later and this is the movie in my soul. I'll tell you one thing. The love scene with Chevy and Goldie in the houseboat is my favorite romantic scene of all time. There are millions of romantic scenes in the movies, and everyone has a favorite. This for sure is mine! And that dialogue is so hot there! What is all the fuss? What's not to like? Today, this movie marks its 33rd birthday, and my feelings about this movie haven't changed and will not change.

reply

Yes, the houseboat scene is one for the ages.

Before I felt guilty about listening to Barry Manilow, absolutely.

Unfortunately, my generation has some kind of negative bias against him.

I saw this movie in the mid-90's, before I was susceptible to peer pressure and herd mentality.

reply

Don't know what generation you belong to, but mine (came of age in the 80s) was fundamentally opposed to Manilow. I've been pleased to see him getting the respect he deserves.

I was born in '80. So few people my age are into Barry Manilow.

Not that he's bad, mind you. But my cohorts are just not open-minded enough to like him.

I get sentimental about this movie, cuz I still remember going as a 10yr old with my 12 yr old sister to the theater to see it. And we thought it was sooo funny with the old ladies playing scrabble.
I think we went and saw it twice. It always has a special place in my heart. Loved her running with the umbrella. Her friend with the brass knuckles. etc etc. takes me back in time.

reply

I like the two old ladies playing scabble

Oh, yes. I can watch this one over and over. Makes me miss Burgess Meredith; "She was one TOUGH ol' mama!", Dudley Moore; "Sing it, Stanley, baby...OH MY GOD ITS YOU!!!" and Billy Barty; "Miss Mundy, do you believe in life after death?".
Love the coast driving sequence, too. This and "Caddy Shack" are the only two films I can ever remember liking Chevy Chase in.
