Did David ever win a fight?

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I've been watching a lot of episodes on Netflix, and so far, I've never seen him win a fight.

He seemed to hold his own when he roughed up McGee in Broken Image even though McGee wasn't really fighting back.

In "Dark Side", David Banner runs off with Laurie, the love-struck 18-year old and as he's stopped by her angry father, David gives him a kick to the head and draws blood. This might not count since David & his alter-ego were under the influence of Enzyme-7 making him uncharacteristically evil.

He WAS pretty much of a wimp. Even average women had little trouble overpowering him(two godmothers). UNTIL...those eyes began to change and then 6 BIG MEN could not handle him!!

As for his "telling people how to live their lives", he was just the kind of person that was easily befriended and seemed helpful and knowledgeable. This caused him to end up involved in peoples lives and businesses, and so, when he saw wrongdoing---he sought to protect them or be helpful. Of course--this made him a target. Somewhat like a "George Bailey" type---putting aside his own needs/desires to help someone else. This got him/them into trouble of course--and only the "power of the hulk" was able to solve that trouble--EVERY time...EXCEPT in his OWN life, of course.

Not really a bad role model.

David was all all the contrary than a wimp. he often proved some physical toughness in the serie
In Wildire,in his fight against Adler he got the upper hand and overpowered him till he got punched in the gut twice
In wax museum he could stand up and make a great rush against Walter though he had been previously knocked over the head
in equinox he could fight off Allan from Diana, saving her life
In child in need he blocked all the punch attempt on his face against Mr Hollinger
In Like a brother he made a great struggle over the car hood though that was under a car wash!!!! he succeded to get out of the hood but unfortunnatly got stuck un the car
In the first he handled Dell Frye and overpowered him allowing Elizabeth to knock him over the head

He was in fact tougher than the average guy, and hulk always saved him from very harsh situation
i don't think there was scene he really looked like wimp

The thing with David, is he never wanted to risk releasing the Hulk. Fighting and getting angry would have just triggered the transformation. David always tried when he could to talk his way out of bad situations.

He would usually allow them to push him around, usually the Hulk being only released when David was in great pain or in situations where his life was on the line.

David might have came over at times as a wimp, but I think he did it to keep the creature of the Hulk at bay. Even though it usually ended up being released as a result of the situation.

Aaron, you actually pointed out something really right. David often tried to avoid fight to avoid hulk out, and there are several examples:
In Slave, when Roy tried to force Marty and David to fight, David just tried to avoid fight While Marty was punching him
In the first Hulk Out in Death In the Familly, David just Denny, tossing him onto the ground several time, without fighting and even tried to warn him
Another example is in Rock and Hard place, when the bad guy drop David into a fridge, David was not fighting back to try to avoid hulk out
Those are just few examples, i guess there are some more.
David looked more fit and stronger than those guys, and would have for sure beat them up in a fair fight
But it seems that when it was only for him, his main focus was to avoid to hulk-out

But, when other people's life are in danger then he never hesistated
in Equinox , it's David who saved Diane's life and not the hulk, he fight off Alan from her
In Wildfire, to protect some friends, he got the upper hand during almost all fight against Adler
In Death of Familly the way he moved some very heavy furnitures against the door to avoid the entry of bad peoples and protect July was pretty impressive.

In those moment he really acted tough, as valiant knight, and showed some physical strenght and ability a way over average.

Cheers

Lucie

Thats the whole point. Banner was extremely passive, while the hulk was extremely aggressive. Thats what made the hulk his alter ego.

reply

David was usually fighting someone much bigger, armed and/or more than one guy.

If David couldn't win a fight he should have learned to mind his own business.

I think I just saw David's best performance in a fight in the episode Wildfire. As he was waiting to hit the detonator, that goon Adler snuck up behind him. Earlier in the episode Adler knocked out David cold with a little judo chop to the neck, but in this second fight Banner went for it. Blocked some punches, then got in a few of his own. Got his butt kicked in the end, of course. But he went down swinging.
