I'll probably get stoned for this as there are "too many remakes" as it is, but this is a film that should be remade...I could really see one of the young ladies of today as the sister...and even in the 70s everything was still danced around...now they can just come right out with it...absolutely lean more towards this woman's real life, and a back in time view of the 70s. I mean we know more now than when they did it as 'the 70s' were happening.

With the right team, right casting....a remake of this could be really interesting. Even more interesting if they would release it up against any of the "Fifty Shades of Grey..." upcoming films.

I know what you mean.
I would rather watch a well-made remake of a good movie, than a follow-up to "50 shades of Grey" any day!
These days, Hollywood puts out so many really bad sequels,that's for sure!

I want a happy ending if this is remade. I want the story to have her actually fall in love and outgrow her self destructive phase so I can leave the theater feeling good.

I know its fiction and all but I hope the guy who kills her at the end ends up in prison for life and I hope he experiences some brutal gang rapes from the other inmates.

it wasn't fiction. the novel this was based on was itself inspired by a true story. the killer hung himself in jail awaiting trial.

And actually self destructive people aren't the ones looking to outgrow their lifestyle. It's the people that love them that do.

It's a money grab. That's all. They would never remake this movie anyway. Too serious for moviegoers now. They just wouldn't like it.

Agreed. No superheroes, no franchise opportunity.

If they did remake it, in the end, Theresa would probably turn the tables on SPOILER ALERT! her killer, killing him and going on to embrace a lesbian lifestyle, having found the real reason for all her problems was the oppression of the male patriarchy. The killer would also definitely not be a member of the LGBTQ population. Even though it's based on a true story, the truth of it, as in many cases, is far too Politically Incorrect and problematic.

I don't reject the idea of all remakes. I mean, if remaking a drama was wrong, we'd never get another Shakespeare play staged because "only the 16th century can do Shakespeare". That being said, there are a lot of bad remakes.

The big challenge in a Goodbar remake is finding someone like Diane Keaton who's able to portray the kind of innocent and guileless woman who experiences moral failure. She's one of those unique actresses who doesn't just project sex appeal.

The other challenge is that socially, the "swinger bar" or the "pickup scene" is not nearly as controversial as it once was, and I think some of that morality formed the social consciousness that made this film work. These days between swiping left or right on your phone or hooking up with someone in other ways has made getting picked up in a bar almost normal. Further, it has kind of a ritualistic element to it.

I feel like a modern remake of this would be challenged to have it come out as anything but a Lifetime movie. It would either become a softcore exploitation film or a boring morality tale. I think it would have a hard time capturing the transformation of a woman raised in a conservative background by urban sleaze.
