Okay-somebody want to Explain the ENDING to me??

VERY Surreal end to a surreal Flick! So he was in a Coma?!? Did the Mafioso Tenement/Brothel owner CAP him??

And how come he was not imprisoned for shooting all those (admittedly Bad) people??

even in "Death Wish" the cops had to spirit Gerome Kersey out of Town.

...and how did he know the Teenage Hooker's parents address in Pittsburgh?

They probably saw it as justifiable shootings seeing how he saved a little girl in the process.

I saw French movies like this.

It's not a "story" grounded in reality, but more like a fairly tail.

The French movies, such as Breathless, were about lost people with nothing to do because modern society has no exciting challenges. So, you get people wandering around with no personality other than what they got from the media.

A guy like Travis, 500 years ago, or whatever, would have been in the military, out in the wilderness trying to make some kind of life and fighting for it. However, in modern times you do some boring job and allows no sense of pride and accomplishment.

In addition, we don't have heroes protecting the village, fighting bears, or whatever. So, some "crazy person" who kills some pimps and rescues a child prostitute by murdering a bunch of people is awesome.

So, the movie is a comment on a society that is kind of dead, but doesn't know it.

Yes, the last name "Bickle" is most likely derived from the German word "Bickel" which means "pickaxe" or "chisel," essentially indicating an occupational name for someone who worked with such tools; it is thought to have originated in a place called Bickleigh in Devon, England, which itself derives from the Old English name "Bicca" meaning "pickaxe.".

In those days, criminals were considered bad and people who kept them from hurting people were considered good.

Seeing how he saved a 12 year old girl I think the cops just swept the murders under the rug.

Taxi Driver is like the GOP, there's no explanation or justification for its existence! ;-)
