Very good to note Minglemist. Yet another detail that explains the situation-if you're attentive enough to notice, which many viewers apparently aren't. But if you notice all the subtle details(the final wound during the sword fight, how delirously-giddy Robin is)it is clear that Robin is fatally wounded and wouldn't have recovered. Which is way Marian does what she does.
As to why she poisons herself as well, there's even some foreshadowing there earlier. When Robin asks her why she's leaving, and she answers "Because I will do everything for you but mourn." As to the argument that a nun wouldn't commit suicide, I think Marian has abandoned her vows at this point(note the earlier scene before the peasant-believers arrive where she asks Robin "Could there be two rooms in our house next time?") She was hoping they'd be able to live together again. Then the rebellion occurs.
