One of the worst movies I've seen

I'm usually in to strange movies like this. I love David Lynch, and I don't have any problems with artistic freedom, but this was just bad, bad, bad.

The actors were mediocre,
The effects were laughable,
The lighting made it look like a home-movie,
The Cuts were confusing and didn't make any sense a lot of the time,
and the structure of the screenplay was so bad it took me an hour to figure out what the hell was going on? (very confused about the aliens on the "desert-tram" and what the plot was all about),
The adaptation I hear is not good (I haven't read it though).
Also, what the hell was the point with Rip Torn's sex-scenes? They had no relation to the story at all?

You may call me stupid, but both me and my (history/language teacher-)girlfriend was baffled by how terrible this film was. I would like to point out that it had potential. I'm really looking forward to the remake.

PS. I'm Norwegian, don't pick on my English skills :)

I have seen this movie ONCE when it was first shown on television. I haven't had the desire to re-watch it, although it is still vivid in my mind.

I do have to say I am a sci-fi fan. The story is well known in fandom.

I think its biggest failure was the use of the Thin White Duke as a drawing card at the time. Bowie hadn't had the experience to carry a movie of this nature.

Of course, later in life, he had become a little too comfortable in his skin to portray Thomas Jerome Newton.

What makes the original poster believe that David Lynch had anything to do with this film?

reply

D. Rust you probably mean David Fincher, because the poster is in the same theme as The Social Network.

That's what the original poster said. Now that I re-read his post, it's probably his wording that led me to believe he had the idea that Lynch was involved. As for Fincher, BZZT. You misunderstood the context of "poster". And to bring up trash like "The Social Network"... well, you're just too much into F*c*book.

I can't say it is the worst but, I just could never get into this film. I have a copy and have tried viewing many times.

I have to agree with the O.P. I've wanted to see this movie for a long time, and now I have no idea why. It made no sense whatsoever. And I really did not want to see Mr. Bowie, nor Mr. Torn's privates, I think I may bee scarred for life. Probably the worst movie that I have ever seen. I can't rate it, they don't do zero.

Yes, I can call you stupid, and I shall.

Your girlfriend needs to teach you English grammar.

And fuck you, I’ll pick on you as much as I like.

This film was incoherent, it's like a 30's monster movie with a 70's exploitation style execution. The camera zooming was especially irritating as well as the main actress' vocal affectations. I was thinking this could do with a tighter 100 minute edit, quite a few scenes that should've been omitted entirely.

it's very much of its time and without DB, it would have been another forgotten 70s trippy movie
