What Happened After the Ring Of Fire?

What do you think? Did our heroes live or die...and how?

I say they lived. Frank and Roger's past competent behavior gives me hope. :) Also, if unrealistic stunts occurred more than once in this film, why can't they happen again??

reply

It is pretty clear that they die. In the 1970a, studios weren't afraid to have downbeat endings.

Even when I saw this this as a kid (scared the crap out of me), as much as I wanted them to live, I know they died. As a kid I used to try and think up scenarios of how they might escape, but none seemed 100% plausable. This film stayed with me for a long time.

If someone can ask Peter Fonda whether they survived or not that would be great. I don't know how anyone could get this question to him or not.

reply

I heard they all escape and re-unite in Heaven.

Have to wait and see in part 2

reply

Most likely they ate their flesh.

reply

I am quite sure they died. If they would've lived, the director surely would've shown them getting away. It was a really creepy ending. It is not how I was expecting it to end at all. I enjoyed it very much.

I thought there would be a sequel? thats what it looked like to me when i first saw it at 12 years old and maybe because thats what my parents told me so i dont get Nightmares LOL

The writers simply went out on a limb, and then sawed it off.

Peter Fonda jumped in behind the wheel got the RV up to 90mph, looked back at the other 3 saying "I think we made it" before smashing into an on coming train..........wait that's a different movie. "Race With Crazy Larry"

...got the blu double feature, and have to say I enjoyed DMCL a little more.
At times this one seemed like a TV movie, esp the dated score. The 'hitting the road' theme in particular sounded like a Brady Bunch episode.
And yeah, I think they were goners. Freeze frames are a bad sign in this kind of film. I'm glad Jaws didn't go for the bummer ending like these two did.
Both movies looked very good in HD, with a couple of great featurettes

That's one good thing about Satanic type movies, they rarely end well. A nice change from the 90 percent of movies that have a happy ending.

For the record, I'm canceling that trip to Texas. There's just way too many Satanists there. :)

Unfortunately, another campfire celebration of some kind.
