Why is Gatsby Great?
Well in my opinion, Gatsby is an idiot, but apparently he's supposed to be great, so can anyone help me out? What makes this guy great?

Two things:
1. He is viewed as "great" by the high society people who can't figure him out, so they make him out to be this notorious, mysterious, larger-than-life figure.
2. He actually is great as seen by his close friend Nick, not because of his extravagant lifestyle but because of his great heart, because of how idealistic and optimistic, albeit naive, he really is.
Gatsby is great because he represents the the realization of the American Dream.
