The first two seasons were timeless and exceptional. Seasons three and out were written with stupid yuck yuck jokes for the live audience to guffaw to with every line or two. The actors also over-acted badly for the audience and all charm and subtlety was lost.
After season two, it stopped being a show about life in the 50s and became a typical 70s-80s sitcom that happened to take place in the 50s.
The only redeeming part of the show after season two was the Malachi brothers characters.
So I do hate the later years, but love the first two seasons.
Season 3 onward became social engineering in favor of liberal thought. Howard Cunningham might as well had his mail delivered addressed to occupant as opposed to head of household since his man card got revoked. In essence you are right about it being another 70's-80's sitcom.
