Racial Slurs
I was feeling comfortable with this movie until racial slurs were used by one of the corrupted cops to Serpico. It didn't say anything about it in the keywords either.

shareOP, I'm black, and I can't say I enjoy hearing the N-word thrown around, especially not in the context it was used in this film, but on the other hand there were things that I was far more disturbed by. Like the rampant corruption and the fact that the whole force turned against him, even threatening his life. In the end he was shot and maimed for life while his partners stood by letting it happen because they didn't want to help him.
I found that way more disturbing than some offensive words.
Also you got to understand that the setting is in the late 60s, it was still quite common for people to casually spew racial slurs, and would you actually expect any better from dirty cops? That's how white people talked back then. It would be dishonest to censor the dialogue just to spare feelings.
black people used and use even today racial slurs: whitey, cracker, *beep* wetback.
black people are not some innocent baby jesuse's walking around the planet.
u americans are race guilted sick people.
Racial slurs are a part of life, especially with some people. I came from rural West Virginia, where it was commonly acceptable in the '70s and '80s. I imagine NYC, for all its differences, has this one thing in common with my homeplace.
I wouldn't be upset that a movie depicts this topic, as long as it is depicted accurately (which I suspect it is).
"Racial slurs" are a part of life, especially the life of a corrupt cop in NYC in the '70s where blacks committed quite a bit of crime.
share.... one time. What, the rape didnt bother you? Of course not! Dirty language, oh no! Prude...
shareI was watching the Chappelle show and then there were tons of racial slurs so I had to turn it off. I then tried listening to DMX to calm myself down but there it was again, racial slurs.
I just wish Dave Chappelle and DMX weren't so racist.
