this is a movie about the NYC police department in the mid to late 60s...and corrupt, criminal, and in some cases, murderous cops.

you were fine with all of that until a "racial slur"? no offense but i'm not sure if i follow that logic.

People were still using racial slurs on broadcast television well into the 90s, so hearing them in an R-rated movie from the 70s isn't that big of a deal.

Lisa, perhaps you might be more 'comfortable' watching a romantic comedy staring Harry Connick Jr. Maybe the movie should have portrayed a crude, and corrupted cop unrealisticly, and just had him say lovely, non-offensive things to prevent anyone from feeling uncomfortable, right? Don't make it true to reality- scrub it for anything someone might find unpleasant.

It depends on the expectations that are shown here. If you want some information on what you're going to see, it depends on the people on IMDB who show you the info ( Content for parents or the keywords or themes).
