Roger Moore’s First Outing as 007 Showed Why He’s One of the Best Bonds

If we judged Bonds by their theme songs, McCartney and Moore would smoke the competition, easy.

He's definitely the best following Connery. I don't think we have a good idea of what Lazenby would have brought to the table since he only had one go at the role and it was in a pretty odd James Bond movie.

reply

Might be the best Bond movie though.

reply

OHMSS? Possibly. It's certainly an interesting one.

I know the Duran Duran song did better on the charts and I bet the more recent Bond songs did well also, but McCartney's contribution was IMO the best of a very solid lineup of songs involved with the franchise. Certainly better than Paul's contribution to Spies Like Us.

Not only is “Live and Let Die” the best bond theme ever, but I consider it the best McCartney — or at least Wings — track. Saw him in concert a few years ago and he just killed it.

Musicians often do their best work for movies. It’s usually while they’re on the road and busy with other things yet clearly provides a needed break from their usual formula. Here’s why: when an artist is approached to create a song, producers are already presold on his work, saying “Here’s a copy of the movie (so far). Do whatever you want.” That freedom pays off, often in a jackpot.

Many Steely Dan fans would pick “FM” as their finest work, a one-off single to a nothing movie most never saw. I use that one as proof that real talents can write a great song about anything — even a radio format.

I saw Paul live a few years ago also and it was the best ever. Always loved FM and I remember when it was hard to come by but they played it on the radio a lot. Not SD's best ever IMO that would be 'Peg'. Saw them a few year ago too when they were both alive, bought an autographed book of Fagans and T-shirts.

Also yes you're right about the musician stuff- that's what I did with my life hehe. Sometimes they don't even get a copy of the movie they just get a rundown of the plot and some words to make sure they add. Soundtracks are important IMO, especially for a series since we have to hear it every time we watch.

reply

Maybe it's because I grew up on them, but I'd have to rank Connery first and Moore second.

reply

With Connery indisputably the number one Bond, Moore is still better than all the others.
