The Smith and Wesson 29

So why was Bond using that gun on San Monique? I mean yeah I’m guessing Kananga took his Walther in New Orleans and Bond probably got the Smith and Wesson from Felix, but he also lost a Walther in Harlem yet he had another one the first time he went to San Monique (I’m guessing he got Q to give him another). So if he lost his Walther again why not just get Q to give him another? He could hold more shots in the Walther and would be able to reload easier, the Smith and Wesson doesn’t really seem like the best weapon choice other than the fact that it looks cool.

If I had to guess I would say because this film was made in 1972-1973.

Honestly I think the Walther looks cooler somehow. It was Roger Moore's first outing so they were just trying to instantly get him out of Sean Connery's shadow is the honest answer.

Same reason why he has more one liners, smokes cigars, makes M a coffee with his machine etc.
