Robert Blake attacks James William Guercio in 'Tales of A Rascal'
Robert Blake bashes Guercio pretty hard in his new book Tales of a Rascal. He basically implies that he and Conrad Hall were the REAL directors of the film and that Guercio didn't know the first thing about directing. There was (apparently) an agreement between Blake and Guercio that if Guercio let Blake and Hall take over, they'd still allow him to get credit for the movie. That's exactly what happened up until the film went into post-production, when Guercio suddenly decided he wanted a big chase sequence in the movie and that he wanted to have that super-long Isaac Hayes song playing in the credits (rather than Don McClean's American Pie, which Blake wanted).
I love this film, but I guess it's one of those rare great films that pretty much directed itself.
