Dog

When William Holden picked up the dog from the gutter, it really liiked dead to me. It was all limp and his head was hanging. I never saw a dog "act" so good.

After he picked it up, he put it in the car. In the next scene, he shows up at his office. What happened to the dog?

Seems obvious enough that Eastwood just elected to omit his visit to the vet. So the reappearence of the beast later on could be played for effect.
